SymfonyLive Portland 2013: First speakers announced
March 11, 2013 • Published by Anne-Sophie Bachelard
Symfony Live Portland 2013 is coming soon! We’re very pleased and excited to co-locate this event with DrupalCon and WebVisions, it’s going to be really huge, don’t miss it!
The Schedule
Great news, we’ve selected the first speakers for Symfony Live Portland! We received a lot of great talks proposals (around 150, how amazing!) and we had a real, real hard time choosing between all of them. But don’t worry, if you did not receive a confirmation email yet, it’s normal, we’re still currently selecting the rest of the talks. You’ll be informed soon.
Now have a quick look at the first talks already selected for the conference. This year, we’ll have two tracks running in parallel, you will thus be able to listen to well-known PHP developers and lead-developers such as Michael Dowling, who will present “Building web service clients with Guzzle” or Jeremy Lindblom and his “Getting Good with the AWS SDK for PHP” talk, or even Benjamin Eberlei who will speak about “Functional Testing with Symfony2” and Taylor Otwell with his “Laravel 4 & Symfony” talk.
There will also be new and exclusive talks! David Zuelke will speak about “Surviving a Prime Time TV Commercial”, an exciting new talk! Wes Thompson will share his experience and present his very useful “Selling Symfony” talk; and, Anthony Ferrara will tell us everything about “Cryptography For The Average Developer”.
Finally, as we’re co-locating with DrupalCon, here is your best opportunity to attend very interesting talks dedicated to both, Symfony and Drupal; such as “Reverse caching proxies: Varnish or Nginx?” by Thijs Feryn or “Silex: An implementation detail” by Dave Marshall.
And as last year, we’ll have the now usual lightning talks session! For those who don’t know the concept, the idea is really simple: every 10 minutes, a speaker has 7 minutes to talk about something related to Symfony: from serious talks about a specific feature or bundle to fun topics about Symfony, developers, life, and more! Be creative, and be prepared!
The Workshops
This year is very special, so we’re organizing more workshops than ever. This means more possibilities for you to be trained on all new topics on Symfony2 or learn about how Symfony2 is integrated into Drupal 8 and be then totally prepared before the conference! You can either buy a single workshop or a full combo up to 3 workshop days just before the conference. Here are the topics:
1-day workshops:
- Symfony Components (Drupal friendly)
- Introduction to Symfony2
- Going further with Symfony2
- Twig for web designers (Drupal friendly)
2-days workshops:
- Discovering Silex (Drupal friendly)
Seats are limited, register now and be sure to attend the workshops!
Registration
Don’t wait until the very last moment to register, truth is that since we’ll all be in the same place with DrupalCon and WebVisions, hotels will probably have no vacancy and you’ll miss this great event! Don’t forget that you can also buy a combo pass to attend the 3 events, and if you already bought your ticket you can still upgrade it.
Also, if you have purchased your ticket as a voucher, don't forget to redeem it on the website to actually be registered.
Sponsors
We are still looking for sponsors to help us cover the cost of the conference; read the guide and consider becoming a sponsor. Thanks to ServerGrove for being our sponsor this year and for being such a long-term partner.
More news will come soon, stay tuned! And if you want to spread the word about the conference, please consider using the official hashtag #Symfony_Live. And last but not least do not forget to register, did I already tell you that ;)
See you soon for the most exciting Symfony event of 2013 in the USA!
Help the Symfony project!
As with any Open-Source project, contributing code or documentation is the most common way to help, but we also have a wide range of sponsoring opportunities.
