Developer Week 2014

Am 14. Juli steigt Paul Seiffert direkt in die Welt der „Web Services“ ein und macht diese anhand von praxisnahen Beispiele für die Teilnehmer „greifbar“.

Für alle Teilnehmer die anschließend in Symfony einsteigen möchten, bietet Andreas Hucks am 17. Juli den passenden „Introduction to Symfony2“ Workshop an. Innerhalb des eintägigen Workshops erhalten die Teilnehmer das notwendige Know-How um noch während des Workshops die erste eigenen Applikation zu entwickeln.

Silex saved me from my legacy code

Facing down a megalith of legacy code is never easy. It sounds like a good idea to migrate it incrementally to a new codebase, with some buzzwords like SOA, TDD and clean code thrown in there, but how do you actually do it? And with what tools?

This is the story of how a small, simple Silex application is allowing a large tech company to modernise its legacy codebase. Using Symfony's younger brother, a simple suite of REST services can be created to support incremental code modernisation.

Paweł Jędrzejewski is an entrepreneur and software developer living in Poland. In 2011 he created Sylius - an open source e-commerce solution for Symfony2. Project is still in development with almost 150 contributors, but has already been used by people worldwide.
