At SymfonyCon 2025, we wanted to celebrate Symfony’s 20th anniversary with a live, collective experience: 1200 developers holding up their phones while we lit up their screens in real time from the stage. To make that work reliably, we combined Symfony/PHP-FPM for the application logic with a dedicated Mercure/FrankenPHP setup for long‑lived connections, giving us both robustness and massive concurrency. This post walks through the architecture and lessons learned from turning a “simple” colored screen idea into a live demo that worked flawlessly in front of a full conference hall.
